Full Job Description:
The person we are looking for has to be a self-starter who is capable of working in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable with dogs and cats of all sizes. An Animal Caretaker is responsible for cleaning dog/cat kennels, letting dogs out to potty, feeding and giving medications, cleaning up behind the dogs outside, and general housekeeping chores such as dishes and laundry as needed. We need someone who is responsible, caring, dependable, and a team player who is able to work independently.
This is a permanent year-round position so people who are able to work long-term and have a flexible schedule will get first consideration.
Job Type: Part or Full Time
Pay: $13.00 - $16.00 per hour

Shelter from the Storm is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Shelter Medical Coordinator to join our team. This position is critical to ensuring the health and well-being of the animals in our care. The Medical Coordinator will manage the intake, medical treatments, and ongoing healthcare needs of our animals, collaborating closely with veterinary staff, fosters, adopters, and shelter teams.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct daily rounds to assess the health and well-being of animals in the shelter.

Manage the intake process, including reviewing and organizing previous medical records and ensuring animals receive appropriate medical attention upon arrival.

Oversee and maintain inventory of medical supplies and ensure proper stocking of needed materials.

Communicate with fosters and the Animal Care Coordinator (ACC) regarding the medical needs of animals in foster homes.

Coordinate and oversee daily medical treatments, working closely with the veterinary team to ensure animals receive necessary care.

Write and manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for medical care and communicate them effectively to staff, fosters, and adopters.

Schedule medical appointments at our partner clinic and collaborate with Veterinarians and other veterinary professionals.

Assist with adoptions as needed, providing medical insight on specific cases and communicating with adopters about animals with special medical needs.

Create educational handouts and materials for fosters and adopters regarding common medical conditions and treatments.

Follow up on medical cases after clinic visits to ensure animals are recovering properly.

Arrange and/or provide transport for animals requiring clinic visits or medical care.

Train animal care staff on administering medical treatments and procedures.

Qualifications:

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with veterinary teams, shelter staff, fosters, and adopters.

Prior experience in a shelter or rescue, animal care and veterinary setting is highly preferred.

Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage medical inventory and handle detailed paperwork.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.

Comfortable with hands-on care and transportation of animals.

Passion for animal welfare and ensuring the best medical outcomes for shelter animals.
